Youth Running Program is series of sessions that serves to help establish the basics of running for youth athletes. With our team of high school runners, all the kids in the program learn proper running form, breathing technique, and how to pace while running. While at each session, the youth athletes will start each with a warm-up jog and dynamic exercises. Afterwards, they will start the session's activity with a few of the high school runners. To wrap up each session, the youth athletes and high school runners will have a group stretch.
For every session , the activity planned targets certain skill sets of running, whether it be pacing or proper form. In the process of the instruction and activity, the youth athletes will share the experience with each other and run to have fun. The program builds up to the Father Bullock 5K race at Cottage Street School in Early June. The youth athletes will have the option to race, with or without a high school runner. From past years, this race serves as the milestone of the program, with every youth athlete smiling as soon as they cross the finish line. The same day as the race, for the youth athletes who would rather come to the session, there will be a FUN RUN for the youth athletes. This session will take place at Cottage Street School, while all the other session will take place at the Sharon High School track.
All the athletes involved in the program should bring a water bottle to each session and apply sunscreen before coming.
