10:00 AM - 12:00 PM    Spring Art Programs - Water Colors
From Idea to Visual ImageBy engaging in the process of creating a painting from idea to finished art work, students will learn about composition, form, proportion, light, space and color and the way emotions play into this. Students will work in a paint medium of their choice and are encouraged to choose from a variety of visual resources for their inspiration. By the end of the course, the students should be able to effectively apply various techniques to realize visual ideas, enrich content, and perhaps even develop a painting portfolio. Bring a soft 2B pencil, drawing eraser and drawing pad to the first class. Also please bring in any photos, drawings, visual or literary material if you already have as a starting point for your exploration. Additional materials will be discussed for subsequent classes. Still Life DetailsThis course is designed to introduce you to a world of still life. You will learn not only the interesting symbols of the objects that were used in the 15th and 16th centuries but you will also learn how to beautifully render them in your paintings. In class we will practice everything from laying down the gesso to final glazing techniques. Through class demonstrations, copying the masters and working on your project you will become a skillful painter. Learning about symbols in the still life genre throughout history will generate new and interesting ideas for your own work in the future. Visits to the museum and some research for he subjects in your painting will be encouraged. Canvas and Brush Strokes in the Abstract WorldAs adults we form strong opinions about painting. The fear of the unknown, the misunderstanding of abstract images and the existence of the conventional standard in art, all prevent us from taking a big brush and splotching paint on the canvas. In this course, with the help of the instructor, you will be able to paint with no fear and comprehend the reasons behind your work. Painting is self-examination, a therapy that you alone can perform for yourself. While exploring the marvelous new world of abstract art you may find yourself projecting beautiful ideas that separate themselves from you onto your canvas. This is the moment when you can begin to understand and enjoy the enigmatic world of painting. Absolutely no previous painting experience necessary. One prerequisite only: an open mind!WatercolorsBring some beautiful sunshine to your Spring days! Watercolor is a translucent medium that sinks into the fiber of a sheet of paper, releasing the light from the surface. Watercolor dries fast, enabling one to work quickly with freshness and spontaneity. Explore the fundamentals of watercolor painting, with an emphasis on exploration and personal expression. Students will work from observation investigating subjects ranging from botanical to landscape. Weather permitting we will venture outside to paint our beautiful lake.

10:00 AM - 12:00 PM    Spring Art Programs - Still Life Details

Youth Running Program is series of sessions that serves to help establish the basics of running for youth athletes. With our team of high school runners, all the kids in the program learn proper running form, breathing technique, and how to pace while running. While at each session, the youth athletes will start each with a warm-up jog and dynamic exercises. Afterwards, they will start the session's activity with a few of the high school runners.  To wrap up each session, the youth athletes and high school runners will have a group stretch. For every session , the activity planned targets certain skill sets of running, whether it be pacing or proper form. In the process of the instruction and activity, the youth athletes will share the experience with each other and run to have fun. The program builds up to the Father Bullock 5K race at Cottage Street School in Early June. The youth athletes will have the option to race, with or without a high school runner. From past years, this race serves as the milestone of the program, with every youth athlete smiling as soon as they cross the finish line. The same day as the race, for the youth athletes who would rather come to the session, there will be a FUN RUN for the youth athletes. This session will take place at Cottage Street School, while all the other session will take place at the Sharon High School track. All the athletes involved in the program should bring a water bottle to each session and apply sunscreen before coming.
