Youth Running Program
Attention kids in grades 1-6! Beginning May 9th, 2021, student-athletes from the Sharon High School track team will be meeting on select Sundays from 3:00 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. to hold fun and informative practices intended to introduce young athletes to the sport of running. While learning proper warm-up methods, gradually developing endurance, and understanding how to pace, young athletes will form friendships with one another and their high school leaders. Current track team members hope to encourage not only interest in the sport for the future health of the track team but also confidence, goal-setting, and overall well-being in the youth of the community.
At the final practice on June 13th, 2021 interested young athletes will have the opportunity to demonstrate how they have grown by participating in a quarter, half, or full-mile fun run around the track, supported all the way by their peers and leaders.
While young athletes are by no means expected to be expert runners, high school leaders do ask for energy, positivity, and open-mindedness throughout the program. Families are always welcome to observe, engage, and cheer on their young athletes.
The YRP works closely with the Sharon Recreation and Health Departments in ensuring that all Covid-19 guidelines are followed. Both participants and volunteers will be required to follow certain guidelines, as determined by the state of Massachusetts and the town of Sharon, in order to ensure that the program is safe for all.
TIME CHANGE: The Youth Running program will now be held 4:00-5:30pm on the following dates, NOT at 3:00pm as originally scheduled.
